Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She's also an accomplished public speech writer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the website which hosts videos and commentary analyzing the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she also works to address issues relating to gender-specific harassment of women as well as others online. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years Sarkeesian was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. The determined young woman was targeted online for launching a website that focused on the gender of videogames. This attack didn't stop her, but instead strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for many years and founded Feminist Frequency. The educational nonprofit explores women's representations in the pop-culture narratives.
